Gabe Kaplan is a multifaceted American entertainer, known for his work as a writer, actor, and professional poker player, bringing a unique blend of comedic talent and strategic thinking to audiences worldwide. After making five impactful appearances on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson’ between May 1973 and December 1974, Gabe Kaplan went on to release his influential comedy album ‘Holes and Mellow Rolls.’ This material, drawing from his stand-up routines honed since 1964 in venues like Cafe Tel Aviv, became the direct inspiration for the acclaimed sitcom ‘Welcome Back, Kotter.’ Kaplan co-created the series with Eric Cohen and Alan Sacks, also starring as the titular teacher, Gabe Kotter, from 1975 to 1979. The show became a significant success, and its iconic catchphrase, ‘Up your nose with a rubber hose!’, originating from Kaplan’s album, spawned a popular comedy record in 1977 and a board game. Following the success of ‘Welcome Back, Kotter,’ Kaplan continued to expand his acting portfolio, starring in the 1979 film ‘Fast Break’ and the television series ‘Lewis & Clark’ from 1981 to 1982.
