Gary Cohn

Gary Cohn’s distinguished career in finance began after earning his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from American University in 1982. Following an initial tenure at U.S. Steel and trading options on the New York Commodities Exchange from 1982 to 1990, Cohn joined Goldman Sachs in 1990, where he would spend over 25 years in various leadership capacities. His rapid ascent saw him named a Partner in 1994, and by 1996, he was leading the firm’s commodities department.

Returning to the private sector, Cohn resumed his career as an investor and advisor, joining IBM as Vice Chairman in 2021. He continues to contribute his extensive expertise by serving on various corporate and advisory boards, with a strategic focus on burgeoning sectors such as cybersecurity, blockchain, regulatory technology, and medical technology. Beyond his corporate endeavors, Cohn is also actively involved in philanthropy, dedicating his efforts to supporting critical healthcare and education initiatives.
