Gene Chizik

Gene Chizik earned national acclaim by leading the Auburn Tigers to an undefeated 14-0 season and securing the BCS National Championship in 2010. This historic achievement garnered him multiple prestigious honors, including the Home Depot, Liberty Mutual, and SEC Coach of the Year awards in 2010, alongside the Paul ‘Bear’ Bryant Award and the Bobby Bowden National Collegiate Coach of the Year Award that same year, and the Amos Alonzo Stagg Coaching Award in 2011. Under his guidance, Auburn players achieved national recognition, including Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton and Lombardi Award winner Nick Fairley. Prior to his head coaching success, Chizik served as Defensive Coordinator for Auburn from 2002 to 2004, where he earned the 2004 Broyles Award as the nation’s top assistant coach, contributing to a 13-0 season and an SEC title.

He further contributed to a national championship as Co-Defensive Coordinator for Texas from 2005 to 2006. Chizik’s extensive coaching journey began after earning his B.A. in education from the University of Florida in 1985 and an M.A. in guidance and counseling from Clemson University in 1991.

He currently shares his comprehensive insights and deep expertise with a broad audience as a prominent SEC Network College Football Analyst, a role he resumed in 2024.
