George Basil

George William Basil was born on January 4, 1978, in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. He spent his early childhood in the Baltimore area until his family relocated to Greece. After graduating from high school, Basil briefly worked as a chef. His career path shifted upon discovering a flyer for the Big Stinkin’ International Improv & Sketch Comedy Festival. This event inspired him to move to Austin, Texas, where he took an improv class. During his time in Austin, he also worked as a bartender and for a pirate radio station. These experiences laid the groundwork for his eventual move to New York City to pursue a career in the performing arts.

In New York City, George Basil continued his training at the Magnet Theater, a renowned institution for improvisation. To support himself during this period, he worked at an Apple store. His dedication to his craft soon led to professional acting roles. He gained significant recognition for his work in television, notably his roles as Leif in HBO’s “Crashing” (2017–2019), Cooler in Netflix’s “Flaked” (2016–2017), and Chet in TBS’s “Wrecked” (2016–2018). His film work includes “Werewolves Within” (2021) and a role as the Boutique Owner in the critically acclaimed film “Barbie” (2023).

Basil’s career demonstrates a steady progression from early comedic performances to more prominent roles in both film and television. He has showcased his talents across various genres, from comedy series like “The Good Place” and “Silicon Valley” to feature films.
