Giada Pamela De Laurentiis was born on August 22, 1970, in Rome, Italy. She is the eldest child of actress Veronica De Laurentiis and film producer Alex De Benedetti, and the granddaughter of renowned film producer Dino De Laurentiis. Growing up, she spent considerable time in her family’s kitchen and at her grandfather’s restaurant, DDL Foodshow. After her parents’ divorce, she moved to Southern California and later earned a bachelor’s degree in social anthropology from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1996. Following her graduation, De Laurentiis pursued her culinary passion, studying at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris with an initial aspiration to become a pastry chef. Upon returning to the United States, she gained professional experience working in various Los Angeles restaurants, including the acclaimed Wolfgang Puck-owned Spago. Her career took a significant turn when she was discovered by Food Network in 2002 after a piece she styled appeared in ‘Food & Wine’ magazine. This led to the launch of her daytime cooking show, ‘Everyday Italian,’ which premiered on April 5, 2003.
De Laurentiis swiftly became a prominent figure on Food Network, with ‘Everyday Italian’ showcasing simple and healthy Italian dishes. She expanded her television presence with shows like ‘Behind the Bash’ (2005), ‘Giada’s Weekend Getaways’ (2007), and ‘Giada at Home’ (2008), which featured her preparing meals and parties for family and friends. Her culinary work has been recognized with multiple awards, including a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lifestyle Host in 2008 and a Gracie Award for Best Television Host in 2012. Beyond television, she ventured into writing, publishing several cookbooks, many of which became New York Times best-sellers, such as “Everyday Italian” (2005), “Giada’s Family Dinners” (2006), and “Giada at Home” (2010). Her entrepreneurial endeavors include launching a line of kitchen supplies for Target in 2010 and founding the catering business GDL Foods.
In 2014, De Laurentiis opened her first restaurant, GIADA, on the Las Vegas Strip, located inside The Cromwell. This was followed by a second Las Vegas restaurant, “Pronto by Giada” at Caesars Palace in 2018, and GDL Italian by Giada at Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore, Maryland, in 2018. She also expanded her brand digitally with the e-commerce platform Giadzy.com in 2017, offering recipes, travel tips, and Italian-American culinary products. Her influence extends to animated children’s shows, where she voiced ‘Paulette’ in ‘Handy Manny’ (2009) and ‘Gelata’ in ‘Pixie Hollow Bake Off’ (2014). In 2023, she signed a multi-year deal with Amazon Studios for unscripted programming and was named godmother for Oceania Cruises’ ship Vista, further solidifying her diverse career spanning media, hospitality, and product development.
