Gianluigi Donnarumma is a widely celebrated Italian international footballer that plays in goal for Milan. He was born in 1999 in Castellammare di Stabia, Italy. In 2003 he joined the academy of ASD Club Napoli, the outstanding ability he showed meant that he was signed in 2013 at age 14 for Milan, where he was taken into the Rossoneri academy. His undeniable talent resulted in him being selected for the senior team before he was 16 years old; initially as third choice goalkeeper then rapidly he progressed to first choice.
In 2015 he signed a professional contract for Milan and became so integral to the team that at the age of only 21 he played his 200th game. He has given great stability to the defence as part of a back line said to be one of the best. On the international stage at just 17 he exceeded all records becoming the youngest footballer to represent Italy under 21 years old.
Just six months later he progressed to the senior team as the youngest goalkeeper to play for Italy.
His predecessor, Gianluigi Buffon, thought he would have an “extraordinary career” ahead of him. Donnarumma is renowned as an intelligent player, reading the game well and is very effective at reacting fast and using his tall and athletic frame. Some argue that he has the potential to be the best goalkeeper in the world.
