Gülben Ergen was born on August 25, 1972, in Istanbul, Turkey. She began her career in the entertainment industry at an early age, first gaining recognition in 1987 when she earned second place in the Cinema Star Contest organized by Hürriyet. Following this, she pursued a modeling career and made her cinematic debut in the 1988 film “Biz Ayrılamayız”. Her early acting career included roles in films such as “Deniz Yıldızı” (1988) alongside Kenan Kalav and “Av” (1989) with Cüneyt Arkın. She transitioned into music by joining İbrahim Tatlıses’s staff at Maksim Casino in 1994, which led to her appearance in Tatlıses’s music video “Haydi Söyle” and a role in his TV series “Fırat”. Her first album, “Merhaba”, was released in 1997 by Elenor Müzik. This early period marked the establishment of her presence in both acting and music.
Ergen continued to build her career with significant milestones in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Her second studio album, “Kör Aşık”, was released in 1999, featuring collaborations with prominent lyricists like Şehrazat and Sezen Aksu. During this time, she also hosted her own television program, “Gümbür Gümbür Gülbence”, and took on the titular role in the TV series “Marziye” from 1998 to 2001. A significant turning point in her acting career was her role as Melek in the 2001 comedy series “Dadı”, a Turkish adaptation of “The Nanny”, for which she received the Best Actress award at the Golden Butterfly Awards. This expanded her fan base considerably. In 2002, her third album, “Sade ve Sadece”, was released, and she portrayed Hürrem Sultan in the television series of the same name, further solidifying her status as a versatile performer. Her album “Uçacaksın” (2004) achieved diamond certification from Mü-Yap, selling 600,000 copies.
Over the subsequent years, Gülben Ergen maintained a consistent presence in the Turkish entertainment scene. Her 2006 self-titled album, “Gülben Ergen”, featured collaborations with artists such as Sezen Aksu, Şehrazat, Yıldız Tilbe, Yalın, and Nazan Öncel. In 2009, she released “Uzun Yol Şarkıları”, an album recorded entirely live, and its lead single “Giden Günlerim Oldu” became a number-one hit on Türkiye’s official music charts and the best-selling digital song of 2009. She continued to release successful singles, including “Şıkır Şıkır” (2011) with Mustafa Sandal, which also topped the charts. Beyond her artistic endeavors, Ergen founded the Çocuklar Gülsün Diye Association in 2010, focusing on promoting pre-school education in Turkey. This initiative has led to the establishment of numerous kindergartens, demonstrating her commitment to social causes.
