About

Harry Jon Benjamin was born on May 23, 1966, in Worcester, Massachusetts. His comedy career began in Boston, where he initially worked in comedy duos and teams, including with Sam Seder and David Cross. For the first seven years of his career, Benjamin primarily focused on group performances. He later transitioned to more experimental independent work, departing from traditional stand-up comedy styles.

Benjamin gained significant recognition for his extensive voice work in animated television. He was a prominent figure in several Soup2Nuts productions, contributing to shows like “Science Court,” “Home Movies,” “O’Grady,” and “Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist.” In 1999, he co-created the animated series “Home Movies” with Loren Bouchard and Brendon Small, providing the voices for characters like Coach John McGuirk and Jason Penopolis. His deadpan delivery and distinct voice became a signature element of his comedic style.

A turning point in Benjamin’s career came with his starring roles in two critically acclaimed animated series. From 2009 to 2023, he voiced Sterling Archer in the FX series “Archer.” Subsequently, starting in 2011 and continuing to the present day, he has voiced Bob Belcher in “Bob’s Burgers,” a role for which he has received widespread praise, including being named 2014’s best male comedy performer at Vulture’s TV Awards. His career also expanded into live-action roles and writing, including co-creating and starring in “Jon Benjamin Has a Van” (2011) and authoring a comedic autobiography, “Failure Is an Option: An Attempted Memoir” (2018).
