Halston Sage was born on May 10, 1993, in Los Angeles, California. She grew up with a younger brother and a younger sister, and rode horses competitively from a young age, actively participating in weekend competitions. Her early life in Los Angeles and her involvement in school plays fostered an interest in acting, though her parents encouraged her to wait until she was older to pursue it professionally. She met her agent on a family ski trip when she was 10, initially exploring acting opportunities a few years later.
Sage officially began her professional acting career in 2011, securing a main role as Grace in the Nickelodeon series ‘How to Rock’, which premiered in 2012. Concurrently, she made guest appearances on other Nickelodeon shows like ‘Victorious’ and ‘Bucket & Skinner’s Epic Adventures’. Her transition to film started with roles in ‘The First Time’ (2012), followed by a notable period in 2013 with appearances in ‘The Bling Ring’, ‘Grown Ups 2’, and ‘Poker Night’. These early roles laid the foundation for her career in both comedic and dramatic productions.
Her career progressed with significant film roles, including portraying Brooke Shy in ‘Neighbors’ (2014) alongside Zac Efron, which earned her an MTV Movie Award nomination for Best Kiss. In 2015, Sage featured in ‘Paper Towns’ as Lacey Pemberton, ‘Goosebumps’, and ‘Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse’. She continued to expand her filmography with ‘Before I Fall’ (2017), ‘The Last Summer’ (2019), and a cameo as Dazzler in ‘Dark Phoenix’ (2019). On television, she gained recognition as Alara Kitan in ‘The Orville’ (2017–2019) and later as Ainsley Whitly in ‘Prodigal Son’ (2019–2021). In 2023, she also took on an executive producer role for the independent comedy film ‘The List’, in which she also starred, marking a new phase in her career.
