Ryan Sallans is a widely recognised Amercian LGBT author, speaker and advocate of transgender equality. Sallans began his own transition in 2005, using her own personal experiences of his trans journey to connect with people. Sallans travels the US, speaking to many audiences ranging from professionals to college students and youths, on the topics of gender expression, identity and the overall shifting nature of health care.
Sallans is an MA researcher, who writes and speaks about issues that surround sexuality, transgender conceptions and diversity. Through storytelling, Sallans touches the hearts and minds of many people, leaving a lasting impression on his audiences. Sallans has been featured in several magazines and media platforms, including Closer Magazine, the Salina Journal, The Reader, NewsNetNebraska, Oddee.com, The Advocate, BuzzFeed, US News, The Chicago Bureau and many more. Sallans openly shares his personal stories and struggles surrounding gender identity and eating disorders, in the hope of reaching out to people facing similar issues.
In 2007, Sallans appeared on Larry King Live and again in 2009. He has also been featured on Ricki: The New Ricki Lake Show and Trisha in 2009. In 2013, Sallans had an interview with Tom Ashbrook on the NPR radio show, On Point. Other media credits include HuffPost Live with Josh Zepps, amongst others. Sallans is the author of two successful books, namely Second Son: Transitioning Towards My Destiny, Love and Life (2013) and Transforming Manhood: A trans man’s quest to build bridges and knock down walls (2019).
