Since meeting at university, comedy duo Hamish Blake and Andy Lee have gone on to become international stars of radio and television. Once Australia’s highest-paid commercial radio hosts, they have eclipsed even that success with a string of successful television series. Among their screen credits are Hamish & Andy’s Gap Year, True Stories with Hamish & Andy, and Hamish & Andy’s Caravan of Courage.
The duo formed in 2003 whilst studying Commerce at the University of Melbourne. Initially entering comedy competitions as a stand-up duo, they got their first radio gig with SYN, a nonprofit student radio network. Graduating to Melbourne’s Fox FM, they presented a late-night show, Almost Tuesday, whose success saw it turned into a weekend show, Almost Midday. This, in turn, was so successful that it was syndicated nationally by the Today Network. In 2006, they began hosting Hamish & Andy for the same network, being broadcast to the whole of Australia and New Zealand. In a feat rarely achieved by radio hosts, they’ve even released two award-winning albums featuring highlights from their shows. In 2009, their success spread to the UK when they recorded a number of shows for BBC Radio.
Having fronted their own TV shows since early in their career, Hamish & Andy have found their greatest success with their unique takes on travel shows, many of which have been made for the national Nine Network. One of the most successful so far has been Hamish & Andy’s Gap Year, running for four seasons and winning five Logies. Currently at the peak of their powers, Hamish & Andy will be making audiences laugh for a long time to come.
