Sensational shooter Hana Im is a sports shooter from South Korea famous for winning a gold medal at the ISSF World Championship in the 10m Air Rifle event. In a crowded finals hall in Changwon, Korea in 2018, Im beat Indian shooting prodigy Anjum Moudgil and experienced South Korean teammate Jung Eunhea into silver and bronze positions respectively, climbing to the top of the podium to take home the gold for her country. Im not only won the first world title for the host country at the event, but also won an Olympic quota place for the Republic of Korea.
Born in Gang-Won in South Korea, she is trained by personal coach Yoonjung-Uh and Korean national coaches Byeong-Jun Lee and Gapsun-Yeo. Im was just 17 years old when she competed in the 52nd ISSD World Championship in Changwon, her fourth appearance in an ISSF competition. The talented young shooter was up against the best in the world, but stayed calm to fire a succession of impressive shots hitting the 10th ring 14 times consecutively and moving into the top position after her 14th shot. She concluded with 251.1 points, becoming the new World Champion.
Winning gold in the first world championship of her career in front of a supportive home crowd was a huge honour for Im in 2018. Im was ranked number #5 in the women’s world rankings in Spring 2020 and now has the 2021 Tokyo Olympics in her sights.
