Harbhajan Singh

Born on July 3, 1980, in Jalandhar, Punjab, Harbhajan Singh, also known as ‘Bhajji’ or ‘The Turbanator’, began his cricket career as a promising young talent, quickly ascending through domestic ranks. Despite early challenges, including the passing of his father in 2000 and considering a move to the United States, he persevered in cricket, fulfilling his father’s wish for him to represent India. His breakthrough came in March 2001 during the home series against Australia when he took 32 wickets in three Tests, including the first Test hat-trick by an Indian player. This performance catapulted him into the national spotlight, establishing him as a key spin bowler for India.

Throughout his career from 1998 to 2016, Harbhajan was a significant figure in Indian cricket. He played integral roles in India’s victories in the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 Cricket World Cup, alongside being part of the team that shared the 2002 ICC Champions Trophy. Domestically, he was a prominent player in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, and Kolkata Knight Riders, contributing to multiple title wins. He was nominated to the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament, by the Aam Aadmi Party and took office as a Member of Parliament in April 2022.
