The son of Mexican immigrants, Guillén adopted the name Harvey early in his schooling to accommodate teachers. He pursued a robust education in performing arts, completing the three-year Citrus Singers program at Citrus College in 2005. His early experiences included recycling materials to fund improv classes, demonstrating his dedication to his craft from a young age. Guillén’s father, who was a significant influence in encouraging his acting aspirations, passed away from lung cancer in 2017.
Guillén gained recognition through recurring television roles such as Alistair Delgado in “Huge” (2010), Cousin Blobbin in “The Thundermans” (2013–2018), George Reyes in “Eye Candy” (2015), and Benedict Fenwick in “The Magicians” (2017–2018). His film work includes the 2013 movie “The Internship.” A significant turning point in his career came in 2019 with his role as Guillermo de la Cruz in the FX television series “What We Do in the Shadows.” This role earned him critical acclaim, including three Critics’ Choice Television Award nominations for Best Supporting Actor, making him the first queer Latinx actor nominated in this category.
Beyond live-action, Guillén has established a career in voice-over work, lending his voice to various animated projects. His notable voice roles include Funny the Magic House in “Mickey Mouse Funhouse” (2021-2025), Perrito in the Academy Award-nominated “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” (2022), and Nightwing in “Harley Quinn” (2022–present). In 2024, he reprised his role as Cousin Blobbin in “The Thundermans Return” and voiced Odie in “The Garfield Movie,” further expanding his diverse portfolio across different genres and platforms. Guillén’s work continues to highlight his range as an actor and producer.
