About

Hope Davis was born on March 23, 1964, in Englewood, New Jersey, to Joan, a librarian, and William Davis, an engineer. Raised in Tenafly, New Jersey, she graduated from Tenafly High School in 1982. From a young age, Davis engaged in creative pursuits, writing and acting in backyard plays with her childhood friend, Mira Sorvino. She later pursued a degree in cognitive science from Vassar College and refined her craft by studying acting at HB Studio in New York City.

Davis began her professional acting career in 1990, making her film debut in Joel Schumacher’s “Flatliners” and appearing in “Home Alone” that same year. Her stage career began with a role in David Mamet’s play “Speed-the-Plow” in 1992, followed by her Broadway debut in “Two Shakespearean Actors” at the Cort Theatre. Over the years, Davis has built a reputation for nuanced performances in independent films like “The Daytrippers” (1996) and “Next Stop Wonderland” (1998), earning critical recognition for her versatile portrayals.

Throughout the 2000s and beyond, Davis continued to expand her diverse filmography across all mediums. Key milestones include her Golden Globe-nominated role in “American Splendor” (2003) and her Tony Award-nominated performance in the Broadway play “God of Carnage” (2009). She has also garnered three Emmy nominations for her television work, including “In Treatment” (2009), “The Special Relationship” (2010), and “Succession” (2022). Davis has contributed to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Maria Stark in “Captain America: Civil War” (2016) and has been a consistent presence in acclaimed television series such as “Your Honor” (2020-2023) and “Perry Mason” (2023).
