Virginia Elizabeth Gardner was born on April 18, 1995, in Sacramento, California. She attended Sacramento Country Day School through eighth grade. In pursuit of her acting career, she transitioned to online schooling after moving to Los Angeles in 2011 and successfully passed the California High School Proficiency Exam that same year. Gardner initially lived with her mother while developing her career, later moving into her own apartment to live independently as more acting opportunities arose. Her early ambition in acting was significantly influenced by the 2001 film “I Am Sam,” citing a personal connection to the themes presented due to her brother having autism. Beyond acting, Gardner is also a black belt in taekwondo and has experience with boxing and nunchucks.
Gardner made her acting debut on the Disney Channel series “Lab Rats.” Following this, she took a period to focus on modeling, working with brands such as Kohl’s, Love Culture, HP, Hollister, LF, and Famous Footwear. Her interest in acting was rekindled by an audition for “Glee,” where she secured a role for two episodes. She subsequently appeared in various television series, including “The Goldbergs,” “How to Get Away with Murder,” “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” and “Zoo.” A significant career milestone occurred in 2015 with her role as Christina Raskin in the science fiction thriller “Project Almanac,” a film that gained commercial success and contributed to her presence in the Hollywood landscape.
From 2017 to 2019, Gardner gained widespread recognition for her starring role as Karolina Dean in the Hulu original series “Marvel’s Runaways,” where she portrayed an LGBTQ+ superhero. In 2018, she further expanded her filmography by appearing as Vicky in David Gordon Green’s horror film “Halloween.” Her work as a producer began with “See You on Venus” (2023), where she also held a starring role. Gardner continues to be active in both film and television, with several upcoming projects scheduled for release.
