90’s it girl, designer and cartoonist Ivy Supersonic is well known for designing hats worn by film stars, celebrities and musicians on red carpets and stages.
Supersonic, also known by her birth name Ivy Silberstein, studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology and during her time at university launched the denim brand IBIV. The brand took off instantly, with her jeans being worn across television shows such as Beverly Hills, 90210 and Good Morning America, as well as being featured on the cover of several magazines. She quickly became a New York City socialite, organising parties and events for some of the biggest names in the neighbourhood, as well as designing hats for famous faces. Her hat designs have been worn by musicians such as Snoop Dogg and George Clinton as well as media personalities Pamela Anderson and Carmen Electra. One of her hats was also worn in The Apprentice final by Omarosa Manigault in 2004. Supersonic has made numerous television appearances on shows including The Tyra Banks Show, Miami Ink and the Howard Stern Show, and has become well known for her outspoken and often outrageous personality, famously taking on 20th Century Fox in a copyright lawsuit after she pitched them her cartoon character Sqrat which later appeared as Scrat in the Ice Age movie franchise.
Most recently, Supersonic has opened her own Paranormal Shop and has also started exhibiting her paintings at galleries in New York City. She continues to be a key figure on the city’s social scene and remains at the heart of the art and design industry.
