Jalen Brunson

Jalen Brunson was born on August 31, 1996, in New Brunswick, New Jersey. His father, Rick Brunson, was also an NBA player, and Jalen spent parts of his youth in NBA locker rooms, notably with the Knicks where his future coach, Tom Thibodeau, was an assistant. Brunson’s high school career at Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, Illinois, was marked by significant achievements, including leading his team to the IHSA Class 4A state championship in 2015. He was recognized as Illinois Mr. Basketball the same year and earned MVP honors at the 2015 FIBA Under-19 World Cup, highlighting his early potential.

Brunson continued his success in college at Villanova, winning two NCAA championships in 2016 and 2018. During his junior year, he was named National College Player of the Year and a consensus first-team All-American. He was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks in the second round, 33rd overall, in the 2018 NBA draft. After four seasons with the Mavericks, where he steadily improved and played a key role in their run to the Western Conference finals, Brunson signed with the New York Knicks as a free agent in 2022. This move marked a turning point in his career.

With the New York Knicks, Brunson quickly became a central figure, earning his first NBA All-Star selection in 2024 and an All-NBA Second Team selection. He has consistently demonstrated clutch performance, leading the league in made field goals in clutch situations during the 2024-2025 season and receiving the NBA Clutch Player of the Year award. Brunson has continued to set franchise records for the Knicks in playoff scoring and assists, leading the team to their first Eastern Conference Finals in 25 years in 2025. His playing style is characterized by elite footwork and a hustle-oriented approach, often drawing offensive fouls due to his strength and agility on the court.
