Ja’Marr Anthony Chase was born on March 1, 2000, in Harvey, Louisiana. His football journey began at Archbishop Rummel High School in Metairie, Louisiana, where he achieved 115 receptions for 2,152 yards and 30 touchdowns. Initially committing to the University of Kansas and then the University of Florida, Chase ultimately chose Louisiana State University (LSU) to pursue his collegiate career. During his freshman year in 2018, he appeared in all 14 games, making eight starts and recording 23 receptions for 313 yards and three touchdowns. His sophomore year in 2019 was a breakout, leading the FBS in receiving yards with 1,780 yards on 84 catches and 20 receiving touchdowns. This included a College Football Playoff national championship game record of 221 yards against Clemson, contributing to LSU’s undefeated season and a national championship title. He was recognized with the Fred Biletnikoff Award as the nation’s best receiver and was named a unanimous All-American. He opted out of the 2020 season to focus on his NFL career, a decision influenced by agent advice to mitigate injury risk.
In the 2021 NFL Draft, Chase was selected fifth overall by the Cincinnati Bengals, reuniting with his college quarterback Joe Burrow. He quickly made an impact, earning NFL Rookie of the Month for September with 220 receiving yards and four touchdowns in his first three games. His rookie season was marked by multiple records, including most receiving yards in a single game by a rookie (266) against the Kansas City Chiefs and a Bengals franchise record for single-season receiving yards (1,455). He set a new Bengals franchise record for single-game receptions with 15 catches for 192 yards and three touchdowns against the Arizona Cardinals, earning AFC Offensive Player of the Week. In 2024, Chase demonstrated further dominance by winning the receiving triple crown, leading the league in receptions (127), receiving yards (1,708), and receiving touchdowns (17), an achievement only a few players have accomplished in the Super Bowl era. He re-signed with the Bengals on a four-year, $161 million contract extension in March 2025, making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history at the time. In Week 7 of the 2025 season, he set a career-high and Bengals franchise record with 16 receptions against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
