Jamie Thompson has transitioned from a Licensed Practical Nurse to a Michigan State Representative, advocating for her constituents in the 28th House District. After obtaining her Nursing License through the Detroit Business Institute in Riverview in 2012, Jamie Thompson went on to become a Licensed Practical Nurse, providing acute and long-term care. In the same year, Thompson was recognized with the Soroptomist Womens Achievement Award, honoring women serving as primary financial supporters for their families, and became a member of Phi Theta Kappa. Her early career also included work as a professional Doula, offering emotional and educational support during pregnancy and childbirth, demonstrating her foundational commitment to community care and advocacy.
Leveraging her extensive background in healthcare and community service, Thompson successfully transitioned into state politics, first elected to the Michigan House of Representatives in November 2022, representing the 28th House District. She assumed office on January 1, 2023. This district encompasses a diverse constituency, including residents in Brownstown Township, Flat Rock, Rockwood, Woodhaven, and parts of Taylor in Wayne County, along with Berlin Township and Frenchtown Township in Monroe County. During her first term, Thompson was appointed Vice Chair of the House Health Policy Committee and served as a member of the House Energy Committee, the House Families and Veterans Committee, and the House Regulatory Reform Committee.
She has called for committee hearings to increase transparency regarding patient care and outcomes in state-run psychiatric hospitals. Her dedication to her constituents was reaffirmed in 2024, when Thompson was successfully reelected to her second term in the Michigan House of Representatives, continuing her mandate to serve the 28th House District.
