Janella Salvador was born on March 30, 1998, in Cebu, Philippines. Showing an early interest in performing arts, she represented the Philippines at a world trade fair in Seoul, Korea, between 2008 and 2009. Her stage appearances included venues like the Meralco Theater, where she took on her first lead role in the musical “Paul! Paul!”. Her career began officially in 2012 with a role in the daytime drama “Be Careful With My Heart,” which aired until 2014. Her portrayal of Nikki Grace Lim in the series gained wide recognition, leading to newcomer awards and her becoming a face for Garnier skincare. In 2013, she joined Star Magic Circle, and by 2014, she secured film contracts with Regal Entertainment and Star Cinema.
In 2015, Salvador took on her first leading television role in ABS-CBN’s “Oh My G!” She released her debut album, which later achieved platinum certification from PARI. That same year, she performed a theme song for Hong Kong Disneyland’s 10th anniversary and made her film debut in “Haunted Mansion,” a top-grossing film at the 41st Metro Manila Film Festival, earning her the New Actress of the Year award. Her career progressed with diverse roles, including starring in the music-based drama “Born for You” in 2016 and collaborating with Disney again to perform a Philippine-exclusive version of “How Far I’ll Go” from “Moana.” Her first solo concert, “Super Janella,” took place in 2017. She gained further recognition for her role as Emma in the gothic thriller “The Killer Bride” (2019-2020), which earned her the Princess of Philippine Television award. In 2021, she was cast as supervillain Valentina in “Mars Ravelo’s Darna” (2022-2023).
Salvador continued to expand her work with international projects, starring opposite Thai actor Win Metawin in the film “Under Parallel Skies,” which premiered in 2024 and had screenings across several countries including the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Japan. In 2025, she is slated to appear in her first indie film, “Fleeting,” for CinePanalo, and has an upcoming non-romance series, “What Lies Beneath.” Her recent music video for “Hey You” in 2024 featured a sapphic romantic storyline, coinciding with Pride Month. She remains an exclusive talent with ABS-CBN, renewing her contract in February 2024, marking 12 years with the network.
