Jeff Chang Shin-che, born on March 26, 1967, in Xiluo Township, Yunlin County, Taiwan, embarked on his career in the entertainment industry after winning a singing competition in college. His philanthropic work began early, serving as a voluntary teacher in impoverished areas of Taiwan during his high school years. Since 1989, Chang has released numerous successful albums, earning him the title “Prince of Love Ballads” within the Chinese pop music scene. His influence extends across Taiwan, Hong Kong, Southeast Asia, and mainland China.
Following military service in 1992, Jeff Chang returned to music with his best-selling album, “Knowing.” Experiencing a creative bottleneck, he took a year-long hiatus to develop a new sound, culminating in the album “Worrying.” This album featured the song “Love Like Tide,” which became a classic in his repertoire and established the distinct “Zhe-style love songs.” In 1994, he released “Waiting,” which included another hit, “Don’t Be Afraid that I’ll Be Sad.” His duet “A Little Touched” with Carina Lau remains a popular choice for KTV. His career progression also encompasses acting roles in films such as “A Pinwheel Without Wind” (2002) and “Ming Ming” (2006). He also produced the music film “Stand in Love” in 2006.
Beyond his musical and acting endeavors, Chang’s interests include arts, antiques, travel, and water sports. In 2011, he took on a leadership role in a stage theatre team in Taipei. He further cemented his public profile by participating in the fourth season of the Chinese reality show “I Am a Singer” in 2016, where he achieved second place. His consistent output of music includes Mandarin albums like “Generosity” (1995) and “See the Light” (2021), as well as Cantonese and English releases.
