Jen Kober is an American stand-up comedian and actress from Los Angeles. Over the last decade, she has established herself as a stand-up of note and a brilliant character actress with roles in shows such as The Browns, Diary of a Future President, AJ and the Queen, The Purge, Paranoia, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and a whole load more. Her comedic storytelling skills saw her win NPR’s Snap Judgement Comedic Performance of the Year Award in 2018 and 2019. YouTube clips of her stand-up routines have been watched hundreds of thousands of times, as has the TikTok content she has appeared in. In 2022, she is touring her Big Fat Comedy Show across America, with shows for both adult and younger audiences.
Kober began to break onto the comedy and acting scenes in the late 2000s. She adopted her trademark fauxhawk hairstyle early on, after cutting her hair to land a television role and suddenly finding herself deluged with casting offers. She also worked her way up the notoriously tough stand-up comedy ladder — a ladder that’s much harder to climb as a lesbian. But she won audiences over with her wonderful storytelling skills and soon had the respect she deserved.
Since then, she has appeared on every network and subscription service worth appearing on — Netflix, Disney+, HBO, CBS, you name it. Her regular role as Mercy in the second season of Apple TV’s queer sitcom, The Browns, is arguably her biggest TV exposure to date, and has helped bring a new audience to her already thriving stand-up career.
