About

Jenna Elfman, born Jennifer Mary Butala on September 30, 1971, in Los Angeles, California, commenced her professional journey as a dancer. Her early career included appearances in music videos for prominent artists such as Depeche Mode in 1990 and Anthrax in 1993. She also performed on the 1991 Academy Awards broadcast, choreographed by Debbie Allen, and toured with the rock band ZZ Top in 1994 as a “Legs Girl.” These experiences provided a foundation in performance before her transition to acting.

Elfman’s acting career began with television commercials and guest roles on series like “Roseanne,” “NYPD Blue,” “Almost Perfect,” and “Murder One.” In 1996, she secured a lead role in the ABC sitcom “Townies.” Her breakthrough came in 1997 with the leading role of Dharma in the ABC series “Dharma & Greg.” This role earned her significant recognition, including a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy in 1999 and three Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. During this period, she also expanded into film roles, appearing in “Grosse Pointe Blank” (1997), “Krippendorf’s Tribe” (1998), “EDtv” (1999) opposite Matthew McConaughey, and “Keeping the Faith” (2000) with Ben Stiller and Edward Norton.

Following “Dharma & Greg,” Elfman continued to work in both television and film. She starred in various sitcoms, including “Courting Alex” (2006), “Accidentally on Purpose” (2009–2010), “1600 Penn” (2012–2013), “Growing Up Fisher” (2014), and “Imaginary Mary” (2017). Her dramatic work includes a recurring role on the FX legal drama “Damages” in 2012 and a main role as June Dorie in the AMC horror drama “Fear the Walking Dead” from 2018 to 2023. She has also appeared in films such as “Friends with Benefits” (2011) and “Big Stone Gap” (2014) and is set to appear in “Shifting Gears” and “Dark Winds” in 2025.
