Brandon Crane’s acting career began at the tender age of four, inspired by a family legacy steeped in the performing arts. His grandfather, Fred Crane, was a notable figure in Hollywood, having spoken the first words in the iconic film “Gone With the Wind” and later becoming a respected classical music radio personality. Brandon’s first significant role came in 1980 when he landed an audition for a Skippy Peanut Butter commercial alongside Annette Funicello, marking the start of a decade filled with commercial work that he viewed as the ultimate after-school activity.
Brandon’s breakthrough in television came with his role as “Smith Sterling” in the fantasy series “Otherworld” in 1985. Although his time on the show was brief, it provided him with invaluable experience working alongside industry veterans like Ray Walston and Jonathan Banks. Following this, he transitioned into guest-starring roles on popular sitcoms such as “Full House” and “Mr. Belvedere,” and notably portrayed “Doug Porter” on “The Wonder Years,” a role that resonated with audiences and led to further opportunities in shows like “It’s Garry Shandling’s Show” and “Get a Life.”
A pivotal moment in Brandon’s career occurred when he played Ben Hanscom in the 1990 miniseries adaptation of Stephen King’s “IT.” This role allowed him to explore a darker side of acting and solidified his place in the horror genre. His performance alongside John Ritter and Tim Curry was well-received, and it opened doors for more television movies and commercials, although he faced challenges during his teenage years as work became scarce.
After high school, Brandon initially pursued a career in law enforcement but soon returned to his passion for acting and theatre. He switched his major to theatre, immersing himself in acting, singing, and technical theatre, ultimately earning his Equity card. His dedication to the craft led him to work with esteemed theatre companies across Southern California, showcasing his versatility and commitment to the performing arts. Today, Brandon continues to thrive in the industry, balancing his professional pursuits with family life, including his wife Ami Davis and their two daughters, Fiona and Evyn, who inspire him daily.
