Jennifer Palmieri was born on November 15, 1966, in Pascagoula, Mississippi. Her family relocated frequently due to her father’s career in the U.S. Navy, eventually settling in California when she was eleven. After completing her education at American University, Palmieri embarked on a career in politics, starting with a position working for then-Congressman Leon Panetta (D-CA). This initial experience laid the foundation for her extensive career in political strategy and communications.
Palmieri’s career progressed through various significant roles in prominent political offices. She served as Deputy White House Press Secretary during the last three years of President Bill Clinton’s administration. Following this, she became the National Press Secretary for the Democratic National Committee in 2002. Her expertise in communication led her to serve as National Press Secretary for John Edwards’ 2004 presidential campaign. Later, she held a senior leadership position as Senior Vice President of Communications for the Center for American Progress and President of the Center for American Progress Action Fund, focusing on advocacy and strategic communications.
Her career continued to involve high-profile government and campaign work. From 2013 to 2015, Palmieri served as the White House Director of Communications under President Barack Obama. She then took on the role of Communications Director for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign. In recent years, Palmieri has expanded her work into media, acting as a producer and co-host for the political documentary series “The Circus: Inside the Greatest Political Show on Earth” on Showtime from 2021 to 2023. She has also authored several books, including the #1 New York Times bestseller “Dear Madam President,” and rejoined presidential campaign efforts as a senior advisor for the 2024 Kamala Harris presidential campaign.
