Jewelle Blackman
Known for her appearances in theatre productions of Hadestown, The Lion King, Fiddler on the Roof, and Dreamgirls, Jewelle Blackman is a Canadian actress, singer-songwriter, and playwright. She has made numerous appearances in television programs and recently made her Broadway debut.
Born in Toronto, Blackman got started in the entertainment industry by playing the role of Nala in The Lion King at The Princess of Wales Theatre. She continued to appear in theatrical productions across Ontario, Canada, acting in Crowns, Cabaret, As You Like It, Fiddler on the Roof, and more. Her breakthrough role came in 2017 when she starred as Fate in Hadestown at the Citadel Theatre. Blackman then appeared in the Broadway production of Hadestown at Walter Kerr Theatre in 2019.
In addition to her success on stage, she has also appeared in a variety of television series. Blackman took on a recurring role in Degrassi: The Next Generation in 2011 before appearing in Copper, Rogue, Nine Lives, Shoot the Messenger, Shadowhunters, and Kim’s Convenience. She has also acted in films such as Nine Lives and Crossword Mysteries and was featured as a voice talent in the 2017 video game Assassin’s Creed: Origins. A versatile actress with a decorated background, Jewelle Blackman is a talent to watch in the future.
