Jim Rogers

James Beeland Rogers Jr., born on October 19, 1942, in Baltimore, Maryland, embarked on his entrepreneurial journey at a young age, selling peanuts at baseball games in Demopolis, Alabama. He pursued higher education, earning a bachelor’s degree in history from Yale University in 1964, followed by a second BA degree in philosophy, politics, and economics from Balliol College, Oxford, in 1966. His career on Wall Street began at Dominick & Dominick LLC, where he gained initial experience in stocks and bonds before serving in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968 during the Vietnam War.

In 1970, Rogers joined Arnhold and S. Bleichroder, where he collaborated with George Soros. Their partnership led to the co-founding of the Quantum Fund in 1973. This global investment partnership achieved significant success, demonstrating a 4,200% return while the S&P advanced approximately 47% between 1973 and 1980. After a period of retirement and world travel, Rogers returned to active engagement in the financial world. He became a guest professor of finance at Columbia Business School and served as a moderator for financial television programs such as WCBS’s “The Dreyfus Roundtable” and FNN’s “The Profit Motive with Jim Rogers” in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Rogers established the Rogers International Commodity Index (RICI) in 1998, a benchmark for commodity investments. He undertook two Guinness-recognized motorcycle journeys, notably covering over 100,000 miles across six continents between 1990 and 1992, documented in his bestseller “Investment Biker.” A second journey from 1999 to 2002, covering 245,000 kilometers across 116 countries with his wife, was detailed in “Adventure Capitalist.” Since 2007, he has resided in Singapore, focusing on Asian markets and continuing to author financial insights through books such as “Hot Commodities” and “A Gift to My Children.”
