Jimbo is the stage name of James Insell, a Canadian designer and drag queen best known for being a contestant on Canada’s Drag Race’s first season. He debuted on Canada’s Drag Race in 2020, quickly becoming a fan favorite and winning the main Snatch Game challenge for his performance as Joan Rivers, but finished fourth behind finalists Priyanka, Scarlett BoBo, and Rita Baga. Jimbo performed a drag rendition of The Buggles’ 1979 hit “Video Killed the Radio Star” for Fierté Montréal’s special online edition of its annual Drag Superstars broadcast, which featured all of Canada’s Drag Race queens in prerecorded video performances. Jimbo toured the United Kingdom with Rock M Sakura and Erika Klash as part of the Klub Kids show after the show concluded. He also took part in an online panel discussion with Priyanka Chopra, Scarlett Bobo, and Rita Baga as part of the Just for Laughs festival.
During the COVID-19 pandemic in Canada, Jimbo launched a Kickstarter campaign to finance the creation of House of Jimbo, a comedy and variety series he hopes to develop in the future, and produced a line of face masks through his design company, with every purchase matched by a donation of a free mask to a homeless or low-income individual. House of Jimbo was described by Insell as having “the structure of a kids show, but really designed for adults,” similar to Pee-Wee’s Playhouse or The Hilarious House of Frightenstein, and the show’s Kickstarter target was met by the end of October 2020. At the same time, the Chemainus-based Riot Brewing Company released Jimbo, a boysenberry-flavored craft beer with a portion of the proceeds going to support House of Jimbo.
