Jimmie Walker rose to national prominence following his television debut on Jack Paar’s show in 1972, which propelled him to mainstream attention. His career soared when Norman Lear’s team cast him in Good Times in 1974, where he became a television sensation as James ‘J.J.’ Evans, Jr., on the iconic sitcom. Walker’s portrayal earned him two consecutive Golden Globe Award nominations in 1975 and 1976. During the show’s run from 1974 to 1979, Walker’s catchphrase, ‘Dyn-o-mite!’, became a cultural phenomenon, leading to extensive merchandise and national recognition, including being named ‘Comedian of the Decade’ by Time Magazine in the mid-1970s.

During this period, he also released the best-selling comedy album ‘Dyn-o-mite!’ and made his film debut in a supporting role in Let’s Do It Again (1975) alongside Sidney Poitier and Bill Cosby. Prior to his mainstream breakthrough, Walker launched his stand-up career with a debut as an opening act on New Year’s Eve in 1967 for ‘The Last Poets,’ quickly becoming a regular at Budd Friedman’s Improv stage in New York.
