Jimmy The Robot

James R. Briggs, Jr., known by his stage persona Jimmy the Robot, became a core member of The Aquabats in 1997, initially joining as a saxophonist and keyboardist. His character is an android equipped with various built-in gadgets, weaponry, and a comprehensive knowledge database, making him the group’s resident scientist. Despite his robotic nature, Jimmy often displays curiosity about human emotions and behavior. Prior to joining The Aquabats, Briggs’ contributions were primarily in music, where he also played saxophone and clarinet for the indie-pop band Bikeride, appearing on three of their studio albums.

Jimmy the Robot’s role expanded significantly with the advent of “The Aquabats! Super Show!” in 2012, where his character was further developed to showcase his individual powers and personality within the band’s superhero mythology. As the keyboardist, he also contributes to the band’s musical evolution. His tenure with the band has seen The Aquabats achieve charting success on the Billboard 200 with albums like “The Fury of The Aquabats!” (1997), “Hi-Five Soup!” (2011), and “The Aquabats! Super Show! Television Soundtrack: Volume One” (2019). He has been a consistent presence, participating in the band’s extensive touring, including Warped Tour and European tours, and contributing to new music releases and television projects.

In recent years, Jimmy the Robot has been involved in the band’s Kickstarter-funded revival projects, including “The Aquabats! RadVentures!” web series (2019-2025) and new studio albums like “Kooky Spooky…In Stereo” (2020) and “Finally!” (2024). His character’s blend of technical acumen and endearing personality has resonated with audiences, solidifying his role as a distinctive and integral part of The Aquabats’ unique blend of music and superhero theatrics.
