Colin Murray Cowherd was born on January 6, 1964, in Aberdeen, Washington. His early career in broadcasting began as the play-by-play announcer for the Las Vegas Stars, a Triple-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres. He distinguished himself quickly, becoming the sports director at KVBC-TV in Las Vegas and earning Nevada’s Sportscaster of the Year award five times. In 1996, Cowherd transitioned to sports talk radio in Portland, Oregon, working for KFXX 910-AM and as a sports anchorman for KGW-TV, further solidifying his reputation within the regional sports media landscape.
In 2003, Cowherd moved to ESPN Radio, where he hosted “The Herd with Colin Cowherd” on a national scale. During his tenure at ESPN, he was recognized as Sports Illustrated’s Radio Personality of the Year in 2005. He also co-hosted the television show “SportsNation” on ESPN2 from 2009 to 2012 and hosted “Colin’s New Football Show” from 2013 to 2014. After a significant period at ESPN, Cowherd joined Fox Sports in 2015, continuing “The Herd” on Fox Sports 1 and Fox Sports Radio, a move that included a simulcast agreement with Premiere Networks. He also became a key contributor to “Fox NFL Kickoff” and co-hosted “Speak for Yourself with Cowherd & Whitlock.
In 2018, Cowherd launched The Herd Podcast Network, which evolved into The Volume in 2021, expanding his digital footprint with podcasts featuring various athletes. His career has been marked by strong opinions and significant milestones in sports broadcasting, including authoring two books, “You Herd Me! I’ll Say It If Nobody Else Will” (2013) and “Raw: My 100%, Grade-A, Unfiltered, Inside Look at Sports” (2015). Cowherd was recently announced as a member of the Radio Hall of Fame Class of 2025, acknowledging his lasting impact on the industry.
