Joaquin Phoenix

Joaquin Phoenix first captivated audiences with his Academy Award-nominated performance as the twisted Emperor Commodus in Ridley Scott’s historical epic Gladiator (2000). Prior to this career-defining role, Phoenix made his acting debut in a guest appearance on the sitcom Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1982) and landed his first major film role in 1986’s SpaceCamp. He then delivered a well-received performance as the rebellious Garry in Ron Howard’s Parenthood (1989). After a brief hiatus, Phoenix returned to acting, earning critical praise for his portrayal of an alienated teenager in Gus Van Sant’s To Die For (1995), followed by roles in Inventing the Abbotts (1997) and Oliver Stone’s U Turn (1997).

Most recently, Phoenix starred in Mike Mills’ C’mon C’mon (2021) and Ari Aster’s Beau Is Afraid (2023). He reunited with director Ridley Scott for his portrayal of Napoleon Bonaparte in Napoleon (2023). Phoenix is set to reprise his iconic role in Joker: Folie à Deux, slated for release in 2024, and will collaborate with director Lynne Ramsay and actress Rooney Mara in the upcoming film Polaris.
