Joe Staley

Joseph Andrew Staley was born on August 30, 1984, in Rockford, Michigan. He attended Rockford High School, where he excelled in both football and track, setting school records in track and earning all-state honors in the 200 meters. Staley continued his athletic career at Central Michigan University, initially playing as a tight end before transitioning to offensive tackle due to his size and speed. During his college tenure from 2003 to 2006, he became a dominant force on the offensive line, contributing to his team’s consistent success in rushing offense and passing yardage.

Staley was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the first round (28th overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft. He quickly established himself as a key player, named the starting right tackle in his rookie season and then moved to left tackle in his second year, a position he maintained for the remainder of his career. Throughout his 13 seasons, all spent with the 49ers, Staley was recognized for his consistent performance and leadership. He made six Pro Bowl appearances (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017) and was a three-time Second-team All-Pro (2011–2013). His career achievements also include being named to the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team. Staley played in two Super Bowls with the 49ers, Super Bowl XLVII in 2013 and Super Bowl LIV in 2020.

Staley’s career was marked by his durability and reliability on the offensive line, playing 181 games and starting all of them. He was known for his effective blocking, contributing to significant rushing offenses for the 49ers. He retired from the NFL on April 25, 2020, following the 49ers’ acquisition of Trent Williams. Beyond his on-field contributions, Staley was actively involved in team content creation, hosting a video blog called “The Joe Show” for the 49ers’ website. He is married to Carrie Dew and has two daughters.
