Joe Zimmerman

Joe Zimmerman was born in Morgantown, West Virginia. He graduated from Davidson College before beginning his stand-up comedy career in North Carolina in 2006. He performed in various regional venues until relocating to New York City in 2012. This move marked a significant progression in his career, leading to broader exposure and appearances on prominent television programs. His early work established a foundation for his thoughtful comedic style.

Since moving to New York City in 2012, Joe Zimmerman has made numerous notable television appearances, including on Comedy Central’s The Half Hour (2014), Last Comic Standing (2014), John Oliver’s New York Stand-up Show (2013), The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson (2013), and Conan (2015). His debut comedy album, “Smiling at Wolves,” released in 2014 by New Wave Records, achieved a ranking of number two on iTunes. He also released his second album, “Innocence,” in 2019 through Comedy Central Records, which receives regular play on Sirius XM radio. In 2019, he recorded a Dry Bar special that accumulated 1.5 million views on YouTube, further expanding his audience.

Joe Zimmerman’s career also includes work as a writer, contributing humor pieces to publications such as The New Yorker and The New York Times. In 2023, he released his first one-hour comedy special, “Cult Classic,” which was directed by Nate Bargatze and made available on Hulu. This special was recognized by The Comedy Bureau as one of the best specials of the year, highlighting his continued impact in the comedy landscape. He has also been a featured comedian on “Dry Bar Comedy” (2017) as a writer in 2019 for one episode, and appeared as “Self” in “Jim Jefferies in On Tour on Course” (2022) for one episode, and “This Week at the Comedy Cellar” (2018) as “Self – Comedian” for one episode.
