Joel Courtney was only 14 years old when his stars aligned.
Visiting his actor brother, Courtney himself planned to audition for several
roles during his vacation and was advised to attend a secretive casting call
for a J.J. Abrams endeavour, as advised by his brother’s acting coach.
Receiving eleven call-backs, Courtney was given his first acting gig as lead
character Joe Lamb in 2011 blockbuster Super 8, produced by Steven Spielberg.
An instant claim to fame, Courtney received the part of John
Westmore in R.L. Stine’s fantasy drama The Haunting Hour and went on to play a
young Tony Blank in hitman action thriller Spare Time Killers. Courtney
appeared in 2012 TV movie Rogue alongside Julian McMahon and subsequently
starred in Giorgio Serafini’s 2013 fantasy horror movie Don’t Let Me Go,
playing alongside upcoming young stars Natalia Dyer and Isabelle Fuhrman.
In 2014 Courtney was chosen to play lead character Tom
Sawyer in the 2014 film adaptation of Tom Sawyer & Huckleberry Finn, going
on to receive a lead role in fantasy drama series The Messenger the following
year. Making a guest appearance in ABC and Marvel television production Agents
of S.H.I.E.L.D, he went on to play demanding lead roles in The River Thief, TV
crime drama APB and Romantic Comedy The Kissing Booth. With a huge amount of
acting experience at such an early age, Joel Courtney is undoubtedly on his way
to become one of the Hollywood greats.
