Joel Patrick Dommett was born on June 8, 1985, in Rockhampton, Gloucestershire, England. His early career involved minor acting roles in television series such as ‘Casualty’ (2004), ‘The Golden Hour’ (2005), and ‘Teenage Kicks’ (2008). He portrayed Jonathon Hansell in ‘Casualty’ and Josh in ‘Teenage Kicks’. Dommett also took on the role of a train soldier in the 2008 feature film ‘The Edge of Love’. Alongside his acting, he moved into stand-up comedy, performing his first gig in Los Angeles, and later in various international locations such as Reykjavík and the Netherlands. In 2008, he received the Best Newcomer award and was a finalist in the Stand Up Comedian of the Year competition. His stand-up career gained wider recognition following an appearance on ‘Russell Howard’s Good News’ in April 2011.
His career advanced with significant television roles, including playing DC Sweeney in E4’s ‘Skins’ in 2010 for three episodes, and appearing in all six episodes of ‘Popatron’ the same year. From 2011 to 2012, Dommett hosted ‘Live in Chelsea’, a discussion show. He was also one of the ‘Jokers’ in ‘Impractical Jokers UK’ on BBC Three from 2012 to 2014. In 2015, he was a team captain on ITV2’s ‘Reality Bites’ and a regular panelist on Sky 1’s ‘Bring the Noise’. That same year, he also appeared on a celebrity edition of ‘The Chase’.
A notable period in Dommett’s career began in 2016 when he participated in the sixteenth series of ‘I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!’, where he finished in second place. This led to him co-presenting the spin-off show ‘I’m a Celebrity: Extra Camp’ from 2017 to 2019. In 2019, he started presenting ‘Hey Tracey!’ and ‘Singletown’ on ITV2. A significant milestone occurred on September 9, 2019, when he was announced as the presenter for ITV’s ‘The Masked Singer’, a role he has held since January 2020. He also hosts ‘The Masked Dancer’, which premiered in May 2021, and has been the presenter for the National Television Awards since 2021. In 2023, he was confirmed to host the BBC’s revival of ‘Survivor’ and began presenting the ITV game show ‘In With a Shout’. In 2025, he is slated to host the National Television Awards again.
