Joel Meyers, a St. Louis native, graduated from Ladue Horton Watkins High School in 1972 and attended the University of Missouri. His broadcasting career began with diverse roles, including as the public address announcer for the St. Louis Cardinals from 1980 to 1982, a period during which the Cardinals won the World Series. He further expanded his experience across various sports and leagues as a play-by-play announcer for the UCLA Bruins radio broadcasts from 1985 to 1989 and for the Los Angeles Dodgers telecasts from 1990 to 1991.
Meyers’ career progressed to include significant roles in professional basketball and football. He joined the Los Angeles Lakers in 2003 as their radio voice, transitioning to television play-by-play announcer in 2005, a role he held until 2011. Since 2012, Meyers has been the television play-by-play announcer for the New Orleans Pelicans. He also holds a role as the lead host of “Above the Rim” on SiriusXM NBA Radio and is the preseason play-by-play announcer for the New Orleans Saints. His work has been recognized with three Emmy awards for play-by-play announcing and he was inducted into the Southern California Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2010.
