After captaining the Dollar Academy 1st XV to victory in the 2004 Scottish Schools Cup Final at Murrayfield, John Barclay embarked on a distinguished professional rugby career, joining Glasgow Warriors as an apprentice in 2004. He was recognized as a Macphail Scholarship recipient in 2005 and represented Scotland at U-18, U-20, and 7’s levels before making his senior international debut for Scotland against New Zealand in the 2007 World Cup. During his nine-year tenure with Glasgow Warriors, Barclay’s consistent performances as a top openside ‘fetcher’ earned him a spot in the Pro12 Dream Team for the 2009/10 season and a Man of the Match award in Scotland’s victory over South Africa in 2010.
