Teddy Riner is a French judoka, or practitioner of the modern Japanese martial art, Judo. His illustrious professional career includes ten gold medals at the World Championships, making him the first and only judoka, male or female, to do so. He is a four-time Olympian appearing at the 2012 London Olympics, the 2016 Rio Olympics, the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He earned 3 Olympic gold medals, two individual in 2012 and 2016, and one mixed team in 2020. Between 2007-2017 Riner won ten gold medals at the World Championships. At the European Championships, he has won five gold medals.
Among his other numerous awards and accolades in his prestigious career, Riner won the RTL Champion of Champions award in 2011, the L’Équipe Champion of Champions in 2012, the National Order of the Legion of Honour in 2013, and the Ordre national du Mérite awarded by the President of the French Republic in 2016. Riner is coached by Benoît Campargue and Christian Chaumont of the Levallois Sporting Club in Levallois-Perret, France.
Riner won a gold medal at the European Judo Championships in Serbia just after his 18th birthday. He became the youngest ever senior world champion when he won the heavyweight event at the 2007 World Judo Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Riner won the gold medal in the 2011 Global Judo Championships in Paris, making him the first male Judoka to win five world titles. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Riner achieved a bronze medal in the over 100-kilogram class and went on to win the gold medal in the mixed team event.
