About

Born on September 22, 1975, in East Liverpool, Ohio, John Caparulo started his stand-up career in Cleveland and Pittsburgh in 1997. After graduating from Kent State University in 1998, he relocated to Los Angeles in 1999 to further pursue comedy. He initially worked as a doorman at The World Famous Comedy Store in West Hollywood and as a groundskeeper, dedicating nearly four years to developing his craft. His persistence began to yield results with his first television appearance on “The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn,” followed by an invitation to the 2003 Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal, which led to a development deal with Fox. These opportunities marked significant early steps in his career progression, laying the groundwork for broader recognition.

Caparulo’s career gained momentum with various projects and recurring roles. In 2006, he was featured in “Vince Vaughn’s Wild West Comedy Tour,” a documentary film released in 2008. He also participated in “Blue Collar Comedy Tour: The Next Generation” and made several appearances on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.” A notable period of his career included over 150 appearances as a panelist on Chelsea Handler’s “Chelsea Lately” during its seven-year run from 2008 to 2014. He showcased his comedic talent in two specials, “John Caparulo: Meet Cap” (2008) on Comedy Central and “John Caparulo: Come Inside Me” (2013) on Netflix. Beyond stand-up, Caparulo entered the world of acting and voice work, playing Brian in the ABC sitcom “Work It” (2012-2013) and voicing Headphone Joe on Disney’s “Fish Hooks” (2010-2011).

In recent years, Caparulo has diversified his creative endeavors and maintained a strong presence in live comedy. Starting in 2014, he began releasing “Caplets”—a monthly series of new comedy material distributed on Hulu, his website, and YouTube. He has been actively writing and developing an animated series titled “John Caparulo’s Cartoon Comic,” based on his life, and has also penned a companion comic book series. From May 2018 until March 2020, he held a two-year residency at Harrah’s in Las Vegas with “John Caparulo’s Mad Cap Comedy,” performing five nights a week. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, he adapted to virtual platforms with “Un-Capped Comedy,” a monthly livestream show, which he later transitioned into a touring format.
