John Early

John Early was born on January 21, 1988, in Nashville, Tennessee. Early on, he developed an interest in performance and entertainment, attending the University School of Nashville and later graduating from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where he studied acting at the Atlantic Acting School. His career began to gain momentum through his work in the New York comedy scene, where he cultivated a unique style that blended sharp wit with observational humor. He became known for his live performances and frequent collaborations with other comedians.

Early’s professional journey includes significant roles in well-known television series and films. He wrote, executive produced, and starred in his own episode of Netflix’s “The Characters” in 2016. He gained recognition for his portrayal of Elliott Goss in the TBS and HBO Max series “Search Party,” which ran from 2016 to 2022. His film credits include “Other People” (2016), “Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising” (2016), “Fort Tilden,” “Beatriz at Dinner” (2017), and “The Disaster Artist” (2017). He provided the voice of The Flash in the animated film “DC League of Super-Pets” (2022). He further expanded his repertoire by writing, creating, and starring in the Vimeo miniseries “555” with Kate Berlant in 2017, and his recent HBO stand-up special, “John Early: Now More Than Ever” (2023).

Beyond acting and writing, Early has a background in live comedy, hosting the monthly variety show “Showgasm” at Ars Nova in New York, where he also serves as an Artist in Residence and Comedy Curator. He has performed his solo show, “Literally Me,” which was a four-time New York Times Critics’ Pick, at venues such as Joe’s Pub and The Bell House. His stand-up has been featured at major comedy festivals including Montreal Just For Laughs, Bonnaroo, South by Southwest, and Festival Supreme. In 2025, his directorial debut film, “Maddie’s Secret,” is slated to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
