Footballer John Franklin III achieved his lifelong goal of becoming an Football player in the NFL when he was signed by the Chicago Bears. The wide receiver rose to prominence early in his career as the main star of the first season of Netflix American documentary Last Chance U, which explored the football program at East Mississippi Community College.
Born in Germany, Franklin moved to the US as a child and played baseball, football, basketball and ran track from the age of four. An obvious standout due to his athleticism and talent, the star player committed to Florida State University after graduating high school and earned the Offensive Scout Team Player Award after he redshirted in his 2013 freshman year. In May 2015 Franklin announced he was transferring to East Mississippi Community College so he could pursue his football career as a quarterback. During his time at the university football fans across the globe witnessed his impressive athleticism and skills through his regular appearances on the Netflix series Last Chance U.
After finishing at East Mississippi he signed at Auburn University proving his versatility by playing both Wider Receiver and Quarter Back positions, he then returned to Florida to play for Florida Atlantic University where he played a large part on the offensive side of the ball.
Franklin’s energy, commitment and hard work meant that he achieved his goal of playing in the NFL when he was signed by the Chicago Bears, and his non-traditional college career has helped him learn to adapt and play in different positions, making him one of the most versatile players around today.
