Andre Rush

Andre Rush was born on September 7, 1974, in Columbus, Mississippi. He pursued an education that included a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Trident University International and an Associate’s degree in Hotel Restaurant Management from Central Texas College, alongside culinary studies at Stafford University. His early career began with enlistment in the U.S. Army in 1993, initially as a reservist before transitioning to active duty. Throughout his military service, Rush was deployed overseas multiple times, undertaking roles such as a hand-to-hand combat trainer and food service specialist.

Rush’s culinary career advanced significantly within the military, leading him to work as a chef at the White House starting in 1997. He served under four different administrations: Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Donald Trump. This role was part-time, as he concurrently worked at The Pentagon. His expertise extended to being a member of the U.S. Army Culinary Arts Team, where he achieved notable success, accumulating 150 medals and trophies in various competitions. He was also the Senior Enlisted Aide to the Superintendent of the United States Military Academy, advising on high-profile events and dignitaries.

In 2018, Rush gained public recognition after a photograph of him preparing a Ramadan meal at the White House went viral on Twitter. Following this, he signed a deal for a television show, “Chef in the City,” further solidifying his public profile. In 2023, he starred in “Kitchen Commando,” a show produced by Gordon Ramsay, focusing on assisting struggling restaurants. In 2024, Rush was featured in Netflix’s “Culinary Class Wars.” Beyond his culinary and television work, Rush is known for his advocacy in suicide prevention, especially among veterans, regularly undertaking 2,222 pushups daily to raise awareness. He is also recognized for his ice carving skills, motivational speaking, and life coaching.
