About

John Lehr was born on November 25, 1965, in Overland Park, Kansas. He attended Shawnee Mission West High and later graduated from Northwestern University in 1988. During and after his time at Northwestern, he worked as a substitute and full-time teacher at Kilmer Elementary School in Chicago, Illinois. His career in entertainment began to develop with his involvement in Mee-Ow, an improv group at Northwestern. In 2000, Lehr converted to Judaism. He has been married to Jennifer Lehr (Jennifer Schlosberg Lehr) since 2001, and together they have two children.

Lehr established himself in television through various roles, including a recurring appearance as Christina Applegate’s brother in the first season of “Jesse” in 1998, and a guest role as Eric in the “Friends” episode “The One with the Flashback” in 1996. He gained significant recognition for playing one of the GEICO Cavemen in a popular series of television commercials for the auto insurance company GEICO, with his first appearance featuring him as a boom mike operator who reacts negatively to the commercial’s portrayal of cavemen. The makeup for this role reportedly took approximately three hours to apply.

Beyond acting, Lehr has also focused on writing and producing. He co-created, executive produced, and starred in the TBS television series “10 Items or Less,” which ran from 2006 to 2009. He also co-created the web series “Jailbait” in 2011, which premiered on Crackle.com. In 2013, he co-created, executive produced, and starred in the Hulu-original series “Quick Draw,” which aired for two seasons. In 2015, Lehr was developing a show for HBO titled “The Loop” about an accidental drug smuggling ring, though a pilot was not ordered to series.
