Jon Bernthal gained significant recognition for his role as Shane Walsh in the AMC horror drama series ‘The Walking Dead’ (20102012). Prior to this, Bernthal honed his craft in theater, training at The Moscow Art Theatre School and earning his M.F.A. from Harvard University’s Institute for Advanced Theatre Training in 2002. He performed in over thirty regional and off-Broadway plays with his company, Fovea Floods, and earned an Ovation Award for Best Acting Ensemble in a Play for ‘Small Engine Repair’ in 2011.
On film, he has been seen as Rick Macci in ‘King Richard’ (2021), Ethan in ‘Those Who Wish Me Dead’ (2021), and Brett Hamilton in Ava DuVernay’s ‘Origin’ (2023). Bernthal also lends his voice as LT Cole D. Walker in the ‘Tom Clancys Ghost Recon Wildlands’ and ‘Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint’ series and launched his podcast series, ‘Real Ones with Jon Bernthal’ in 2022. Bernthal continues to engage in high-profile projects, notably reprising his iconic role as Frank Castle / The Punisher in Marvel’s ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ (2025) and co-writing and starring in The Punisher Special Presentation for Disney+ (2026).
He is also set to return as Braxton in ‘The Accountant 2’ (2025) and will make his Broadway debut in ‘Dog Day Afternoon’ (2026). Beyond his acting career, Bernthal is known for his advocacy for pit bull ownership and his charitable work with Drops Fill Buckets.
