Jonah Keri

Jonah Keri, born on September 20, 1974, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, developed an early interest in baseball, stemming from his grandfathers’ passion for the sport. This early exposure led him to become a lifelong fan of the Montreal Expos. He further pursued his interest in writing by interning at the Montreal Gazette and graduating from Concordia University’s journalism program in 1997.

Keri’s career in journalism has spanned numerous prominent publications, where he focused primarily on baseball but also covered other sports, business, and entertainment. His contributions have appeared in ESPN.com, The Wall Street Journal, FanGraphs, GQ, The Huffington Post, The New York Times, Bloomberg Sports, Baseball Prospectus, Investor’s Business Daily, Sports Illustrated, Grantland, FiveThirtyEight, CBSSports.com, The Athletic, and Sportsnet. A significant achievement in his career includes co-writing and editing “Baseball Between the Numbers: Why Everything You Know About the Game Is Wrong” and authoring the New York Times bestseller “The Extra 2%: How Wall Street Strategies Took a Major League Baseball Team from Worst to First.” This book focused on the Tampa Bay Rays’ ascent.

In March 2014, Keri released “Up, Up, and Away: The Kid, the Hawk, Rock, Vladi, Pedro, le Grand Orange, Youppi!, the Crazy Business of Baseball, and the Ill-fated but Unforgettable Montreal Expos,” which became a No. 1 Canadian bestseller. He also hosted “The Jonah Keri Podcast,” interviewing figures such as Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal. Keri appeared as himself in the IFC series “Brockmire” in 2017. His professional activities ceased after his arrest in July 2019.
