Jay Shetty was born on September 6, 1987, in London, England, into a Hindu family of Indian origin. He was raised in Barnet, North London, and was a member of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) from childhood. He attended Queen Elizabeth’s School, Barnet, and later graduated from Bayes Business School at City St George’s, University of London. Shetty’s career path was significantly influenced by a meeting with monk Gauranga Das in business school, which led him to explore a monastic lifestyle. While he has stated spending three years, from 2010 to 2013, living an ISKCON lifestyle at an ashram in Mumbai, available information indicates he spent much of this period at Bhaktivedanta Manor in Watford, England, producing promotional videos.
