Jonah Lees is an emerging British actor currently best known for his roles in series such as Letter for the King and Sun Records. He has also recently appeared in British comedy Phantom of the Open (starring Mark Rylance) and has also played John Lennon in Midas Man, a biopic of the tragic Beatles manager, Brian Epstein. Lees is also a singer-songwriter and enjoyed success with his debut single, ‘Branded’, which received tens of thousands of streams when it was released in 2020.
Lees was born in Colchester in 1995 and made his first television appearances as a child, with his debut being in an episode of long-running medical drama Holby City. His first recurring role was a voice part in the 2007 animated series Happy Monster Band, a Disney creation that ran in the UK for two series. During his teenage years, he popped up in a wide variety of roles, from appearing in three episodes of Channel 4’s black comedy series Free Agents to portraying a young Eric Morecambe in the 2011 television film Eric & Ernie.
In 2017, Lees won his first prominent role doing something completely different: playing televangelist Jimmy Swaggart in Sun Records, an American miniseries shown on Country Music Television about the legendary record label that launched the careers of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and many others. There was then an appearance in a music video for Janelle Monae before he landed the role of Jussipo in The Letter for the King, a coming-of-age fantasy series made by Netflix that won several Daytime Emmy Awards.
