Jordan David Johnson was born on November 18, 1988, in Richmond, Virginia. His athletic journey began in 6th grade with wrestling at Washington Jr. High School in Naperville, Illinois. He continued to excel, becoming the Illinois High School State Wrestling Champion during his junior year at Naperville North High School. Later, after moving to Iowa, he secured 3rd place in the Iowa state tournament. Johnson’s collegiate wrestling career at the University of Iowa included a 25-11 record and two University Nationals All-American titles in freestyle wrestling, demonstrating his early commitment to combat sports.
Johnson embarked on his amateur MMA career in 2013 as a Heavyweight, achieving an undefeated 3-0 record. He turned professional in 2014, maintaining his unbeaten streak with a 6-0 record, and notably became the final RFA Light Heavyweight Champion. This success led to his signing with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in January 2017. During his time in the UFC, Johnson secured several victories, including unanimous decision wins against Henrique da Silva (2017) and Marcel Fortuna (2017), and a split decision win against Adam Milstead (2018). He also recorded a submission victory against Adam Yandiev (2018). These achievements marked his steady progression in professional MMA.
Following his UFC tenure, Johnson joined the Professional Fighters League (PFL) in 2019, where he competed in the light heavyweight bracket. He advanced to the 2019 PFL Light Heavyweight Tournament Semifinal, winning against Rashid Yusupov by unanimous decision, and ultimately reached the final.
